| Burns Harbor: Americas premier producer
of high-quality steel plate Burns Harbor is North Americas
largest producer of steel plate, shipping over one million tons annually. This leadership
has been developed by putting the most sophisticated technology in the hands of the best
people. The result is a standard of steel plate quality, dimensional accuracy and property
consistency that is leading the industry. Customers know they can count on Burns Harbor to
deliver superior plate products that meet their needs and help keep them competitive.
A complete selection of plate to meet specific customer needs
Burns Harbor offers a full range of sizes and grades in plate products. All are
produced with rigidly controlled internal and surface quality, consistent properties and
dimensional accuracy to meet a wide range of customer requirements.
Plate is produced to each customers exact dimensions
Plate is available in thicknesses from 0.1875 inch to a full 15 inches. Also, in
widths up to 150 inches and lengths to over 127 feet.
The right grade for each application
Burns Harbor also produces a complete range of steel plate grades for virtually
any application. This includes:
- Asrolled, highstrength, lowalloy (HSLA) steel which is strong, yet
cost effective. Used in all major industries, including machinery, railroad, construction
and shipbuilding applications.
- Weathering steel grades that offer superior resistance to oxidation and corrosion for
exposed, unpainted bridge and building construction.
- Heattreated and asrolled abrasionresisting plate that greatly extends
the service life of earthmoving, construction and mining equipment, and heavy machinery.
- Special lowcarbon, lowsulphur HSLA grades for shipbuilding, line pipe and
offshore oil rigs.
- Pressurevessel carbon and alloy plate required for the construction of boilers,
tanks and other vessels that operate under high heat and/or pressure.
Continuous development of new steel grades
Burns Harbor and Bethlehem researchers are continuously developing new grades of
steel plate to help customers improve performance and control costs. Major focus is on
asrolled HSLA plates with yield strengths of 50,000 psi and higher through
4inch plate thickness. This also includes lowsulphur plate and
controlledroll process grades such as BethStar and Integra. Other areas of
development concentrate on heattreated plate with improved weldability and abrasion
resistance. |
