The Primary Processes and Manufacturing Systems Division is responsible for developing and implementing new process, control and scheduling technology in cokemaking, ironmaking, steelmaking and continuous casting. The key function of the Division is to support our steel business in developing and implementing improved operating practices and control systems for existing processes. The Division also provides computer modeling, refractory testing and experimental steel melting capabilities. The Division is organized into the following four groups:
  • Steel Processes — including cokemaking, ironmaking and steelmaking.
  • Casting —focusing on improvements to our continuous casting operations at the plants.
  • Refractories —developing improved refractory systems in all steel processes and continuous casting.
  • Systems Analysis — developing applied mathematics and artificial intelligence systems to improve manufacturing operations.
