Guide To Bethlehem's Tin Mill Products

Bethlehem�s Sparrows Point Division is a large, integrated producer of steel products, including tin mill products that are fabricated into a wide range of end-use items.

As such, we offer a full line of tinplate, electrolytic chromium coated steel (ECCS), black plate, electrolytic tin-coated sheet (ETCS) and electrolytic chromium coated sheet.

Tinplate is widely used for sanitary food and general line containers, where superior corrosion resistance, coatability and manufacturability are critical. Welded can bodies, drawn and ironed bodies and can ends are made of tinplate.

ECCS is used primarily for can ends and draw-redraw can bodies that require superior organic coating characteristics. ECCS is also used for non-container applications including sheathing for electrical cable.

Black plate is used by specialty canmakers and for a variety of non-container uses requiring good manufacturability and paintability. Venetian blinds, drapery rods, and related hardware, toys and housewares are all made from black plate.

ETCS is used for automotive oil filters and a wide array of other applications.
