BETHLEHEM, Pa., June 18, 2002- Francis J. Tomkowski, senior sourcing specialist with 32 years service with Bethlehem Steel Corporation was recently elected the 2002-2003 president of the Lehigh Valley chapter of the Institute for Supply Management. The organization was formerly known as the National Association of Purchasing Management.
Founded in 1915, the Institute for Supply Management (ISM) is one of the most respected educational associations in the United States. ISM is a communication link among more than 48,000 purchasing and supply management professionals. Its mission is to provide national and international leadership in purchasing and material management, particularly in the areas of education, research and standards of excellence.
Mr. Tomkowski began his career with Bethlehem in 1970 as an associate buyer at the former Johnstown plant. In 1980, he was transferred to Bethlehem's home office purchasing department where he has served in various capacities. Mr. Tomkowski achieved the designation of Certified Purchasing Manager from the National Association of Purchasing Management in 1997.
