STEELTON, Pa., July 16, 2002 - Bethlehem Steel Corporation is investigating an accident that injured two employees this morning at its Pennsylvania Steel Technologies (PST) operation in Steelton, Pa. Injured in today's accident were Perry Heath, 50, of Harrisburg, Pa, and Keith Flynn, 47, of Muir, Pa. Both are electrical lineman and long-service employees at PST.

The accident occurred at approximately 7:10 a.m. when the employees were working on the roof of the Forge Building to remove inactive electrical cables. The cables are carried across the roof of the building on a series of steel support towers. In the course of removing cabling from one of the towers, the tower collapsed, injuring the two employees. The cause of the collapse is under investigation. Nobody else was injured in the accident.

Mr. Heath was airlifted to the Trauma Center at Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center and is now receiving care in the Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU) where his condition is listed as critical. Mr. Flynn was transported by ambulance to the same facility where he was admitted and is currently in fair condition.

Production at PST was unaffected by today's accident and a formal investigation is underway to determine its cause.
