BETHLEHEM, Pa., February 26, 2002 - The appointment of Charles W. Campbell Jr. to vice president, public affairs, Bethlehem Steel Corporation, effective March 1, 2002, was announced today by Robert S. Miller Jr., chairman and chief executive officer. He will succeed Stephen G. Donches, vice president, public affairs, whose retirement was previously announced.
In that position, Mr. Campbell's responsibilities will be to manage Bethlehem's government affairs matters at the national, state and local levels, represent Bethlehem in legislative, regulatory and community relations matters, manage corporate external and internal communications, and manage Bethlehem's corporate support programs. He will also provide coordination and support for the corporation's continuing development of the Bethlehem Works and Bethlehem Commerce Center projects in Bethlehem, Pa.
Additionally, Mr. Campbell will retain his current titles of associate general counsel and assistant secretary of the corporation and will continue to support the secretary's office on corporate matters and oversee the securities and real estate functions of the law department.
A native of Bethlehem, Pa., Mr. Campbell earned a bachelor of science degree from Pennsylvania State University in 1972 and a law degree from the University of South Carolina in 1976.
Mr. Campbell joined Bethlehem Steel's law department in 1977. He was named senior attorney in 1985, general attorney in 1991, assistant secretary in 1994, and associate general counsel in 2000.
Mr. Campbell is a member of the American, Pennsylvania and Northampton County Bar Associations and the American Society of Corporate Secretaries. He also serves on the board of directors of Valley Youth House, Lehigh Valley Industrial Parks Inc., and Community Action Development Corporation of Bethlehem.
Mr. Campbell and his wife, Jeanette, are the parents of two daughters and two sons and reside in Bethlehem.
