BETHLEHEM, Pa., March 26, 2001 - Thomas J. Conarty, senior vice president and chief information and procurement officer, Bethlehem Steel Corporation, today received the Ironmaking Merit Award from the Iron and Steel Society at its 60th Ironmaking Conference in Baltimore, Md.
The award annually recognizes a person who has served the Ironmaking Division for many years as a member or chairman, and who has made significant contributions to the Division.
Mr. Conarty who holds degrees in chemical and metallurgical engineering has been active with the Iron and Steel Society for many years. His service has included membership on the Ironmaking Executive Committee and the Program Committee, for which he helped organize special conferences (such as Artificial Intelligence in the Steel Industry) and chaired numerous technical sessions and subcommittees.
The Iron and Steel Society is a leading professional and technical society serving its members and advancing knowledge exchanges in the global iron and steel industry.
