Clarence J. Ehlers appointed director, public affairs, Burns Harbor Division

    For Immediate Release

    BETHLEHEM, Pa., March 21, 2001 -- Clarence J. Ehlers has been appointed Director, Public Affairs, at Bethlehem Steel Corporation's Burns Harbor, Ind., Division.

    In that position, Mr. Ehlers will provide public affairs services to the Burns Harbor Division, including state and local government affairs, community affairs, corporate support and media relations. He is located at the Burns Harbor Division, and he will report to Stephen G. Donches, corporate vice president, public affairs.

    Mr. Ehlers joined Bethlehem following a 32-year career at National Steel Corporation in human resources, industrial engineering and public affairs. Prior to his retirement from National Steel, on December 31, 2000, Mr. Ehlers served as manager, corporate affairs, where he was responsible for corporate government affairs, community affairs, corporate support and media relations.

    A native of Davenport, Iowa and raised in Escanaba, Michigan, Mr. Ehlers received a bachelor of science degree from Michigan Technological University and a master of science business administration degree from Indiana University. He has been active in numerous community and professional organizations, and was appointed by Indiana Governor, Frank O'Bannon, to represent National Steel on the Indiana Steel Industry Advisory Commission. Prior to his retirement, Mr. Ehlers served as a registered lobbyist for National Steel in the states of Indiana, Michigan, Illinois and Minnesota. Currently, he represents Bethlehem Steel on the managing board of directors of the Northwest Indiana Forum.

    He and his wife, Sally, are the parents of three adult daughters. They reside in Valparaiso, Indiana.
