Ronald F. Chango elected president of the Burns Harbor, Ind. Division

    BETHLEHEM, Pa., March 17, 2000 - Ronald F. Chango has been elected president of the Burns Harbor, Ind., Division of Bethlehem Steel Corporation, it was announced today by Curtis H. Barnette, Bethlehem�s chairman and chief executive officer. Mr. Chango will report to Duane R. Dunham, president and chief operating officer, whose election to chairman, president and chief executive officer will become effective April 25, 2000.

    In making the announcement, Mr. Barnette said: "We are confident that Ron�s significant operating experience and strong leadership skills will enable Burns Harbor to achieve its strategic and business objectives and enhance its position as the premier supplier in the markets it serves."

    A native of Philadelphia, Pa., Mr. Chango holds a bachelor of science degree in chemical engineering from Drexel University. He attended the Advanced Management Program at the University of Pennsylvania�s Wharton School of Business in 1999.

    Mr. Chango joined Bethlehem Steel in 1970 at the blast furnace department at the corporation�s Lackawanna, N.Y., plant. Mr. Chango worked in various operating management positions there before being transferred to Burns Harbor in 1983. At Burns Harbor, he served as superintendent of the blast furnace department from 1990 to 1995 and was superintendent of the slab mill/plate mills department from 1995 to 1997. He was promoted to senior manager, operations, in August 1997 and to vice president, operations, in June 1998. He was appointed acting president on February 14, 2000.

    A leading steel operations expert, Mr. Chango is a member and former director of the Western States Blast Furnace and Coke Plant Association, having held several elected offices with that group and is a member of the American Iron and Steel Institute.

    Mr. Chango and his wife, Lorraine, are the parents of three grown children. They reside in Chesterton, Ind.
