BETHLEHEM, Pa., February 1, 2000 -- The election, effective today, of William H. Graham to senior vice president, general counsel and secretary, Bethlehem Steel Corporation, was announced today by Curtis H. Barnette, chairman and chief executive officer.
Mr. Graham will report to Mr. Barnette until April 25, 2000 and to Duane R. Dunham after Mr. Barnette�s retirement. Mr. Dunham�s election as chairman, president and chief executive officer, effective April 25, 2000, was previously announced.
Mr. Graham, a native of Newark, N.J., graduated from Ohio State University with a bachelor of arts degree in 1968. He then served as a lieutenant in the U.S. Army from December 1968 until September 1970. Following military service in Vietnam, he earned a doctor of jurisprudence degree from Rutgers University Law School in 1973. Mr. Graham was awarded a master of laws degree in corporate law from New York University Law School in 1978 and a master of laws degree in trade regulation law from New York University Law School in 1980. He attended the Stanford University Executive Education Program in 1997.
Prior to joining Bethlehem Steel as an attorney in the law department in 1977, Mr. Graham was an attorney with McElroy, Connell, Foley and Geiser, a law firm in Newark. He was promoted to senior attorney in 1979 and general attorney in 1981, with responsibilities in connection with state and federal litigation matters. He advanced to assistant general counsel in 1985 and was elected general counsel, effective November 1, 1992. Mr. Graham was elected vice president, general counsel and secretary, effective January 25, 1995.
He is a member of the Pennsylvania, Northampton County, American, New Jersey and Essex County, N.J., Bar Associations, as well as the Trial Attorneys of New Jersey, the Pennsylvania Defense Institute and the American Corporate Counsel Association.
Mr. Graham is also a member of the Association of General Counsel, the American Bar Association Committee of Corporate General Counsel, the Manufacturers� Alliance Law Council, the American Society of Corporate Secretaries and the Stockholders Relations Society. He serves on the boards of the Pennsylvania Civil Justice Coalition, the Atlantic Legal Foundation and the Bethlehem YMCA.
Mr. Graham and his wife, Lorry, are the parents of one child. They reside in Annandale, N.J.
