BETHLEHEM, Pa., September 22, 1999 - The election, effective October 1, 1999, of David M. Beinner to senior vice president, commercial; Thomas J. Conarty, Jr., to vice president and chief information officer; and, Leonard M. Anthony to treasurer, Bethlehem Steel Corporation, was announced today by Curtis H. Barnette, chairman and chief executive officer. Messrs. Beinner, Conarty and Anthony will also become members of Bethlehem�s Corporate Management Committee.
David M. Beinner
In his new capacity, Mr. Beinner will serve as Bethlehem�s chief commercial officer with responsibility for coordination and oversight of corporate commercial matters. He will report to Duane R. Dunham, president and chief operating officer. Mr. Beinner currently serves as vice president, commercial, for Bethlehem�s Burns Harbor Division in Indiana.
A native of Irvington, N.J., Mr. Beinner received a bachelor of science degree in business administration from the University of Delaware and completed the Senior Executive Program at Stanford University�s Graduate School of Business in 1990.
Following graduation from college, he served four years as an infantry officer in the United States Marine Corps and was discharged in 1965 with the rank of captain.
Mr. Beinner joined Bethlehem in 1965 as a member of the Loop Course, the company�s management training program, and was first assigned as a salesman in Chicago, Ill. He was transferred to Bethlehem, Pa., in 1973 as a product specialist in plate sales and was later promoted to assistant manager of plate sales.
In 1981, he was appointed manager of sales in Bethlehem�s Boston office and, in 1983, he returned to Bethlehem as manager of sales, plates and tubular products. In 1984, he was promoted to manager of sales, Midwest Region, with offices in Chicago. He was promoted to general manager of corporate sales at the corporate headquarters in Bethlehem in May 1988. In January 1993, he was appointed to his current position.
Mr. Beinner is currently a member of the Flat Rolled Council of the Steel Service Center Institute and the Joint Policy Board of the Auto/Steel Partnership. He is a past board member of the Steel Plate Fabricators Association and past chairman of the Construction Marketing Committee of the American Iron and Steel Institute.
Mr. Beinner and his wife, Joanne, are the parents of three adult children. They will relocate to the Bethlehem, Pa., area.
Thomas J. Conarty, Jr.
In his new position, Mr. Conarty will be the officer responsible for Bethlehem�s information services and information technology program, including the technical development and support of corporate-wide e-business activities. He will report to Roger P. Penny, vice chairman. Mr. Conarty currently serves as director, information technology, and secretary of the corporation's Information Technology Corporate Policy Council.
A native of Packerton, Pa., Mr. Conarty received a bachelor of science degree in chemical engineering from Lehigh University in 1971 and completed the Harvard Business Management Program in 1990. Earlier this year, he graduated from the Advanced Management Program at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.
Prior to joining Bethlehem in 1974, he was a plant manager of a specialty chemical manufacturing company. Mr. Conarty first worked at Bethlehem Steel's Sparrows Point Division near Baltimore, Md., before being assigned to Bethlehem�s research department where he had technical management responsibility for various aspects of the primary steelmaking process. He was appointed to his present position in 1993.
Mr. Conarty holds several patents and has authored a number of technical papers and presentations in the areas of primary steelmaking, computer process control, raw materials selection and information technology.
He is a member of the American Chemical Society, the Engineering Society of Detroit, Bethlehem Engineers� Club, Society for Information Management, the Association for Systems Management, and the Iron and Steel Society of AIME. Mr. Conarty is also a member of the Asa Packer Society of Lehigh University and a board member of its Diamond Center for Economic Education. He is a founder and president of the International Information Technology Users Group and is the immediate past chairman of the Information Systems Management Council of The Manufacturers Alliance. He is a participant on the (Pennsylvania) Governor�s Corporate Advisory Group for Information Technology. He also serves as a Key Reader on the Advisory Board of the Transactions of the Iron and Steel Society, a refereed journal.

Leonard M. Anthony
In his new capacity, Mr. Anthony will have overall responsibility for Bethlehem�s treasury and risk management activities. He will report to Gary L. Millenbruch, vice chairman and chief financial officer. Mr. Anthony is currently assistant treasurer.
A native of Bethlehem, he earned a bachelor of science degree in accounting from The Pennsylvania State University in 1976 and was awarded a master of business administration degree from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania in 1993. He also earned the designation Certified Cash Manager from the Treasury Management Association.
Mr. Anthony joined the credit division of Bethlehem�s finance department in 1979 where he progressed to administrative manager in 1982 and to credit manager in 1985. The following year, he joined the financial services division as director, financial services and, in 1990, he was promoted to director, risk management. He was appointed manager, financial planning and risk management, in 1993 and elected to his current position in April 1998.
Mr. Anthony is Bethlehem Steel�s representative on the Bethlehem Economic Development Corporation (BEDCO) Loan Pool Committee, which provides financing for economic development projects in the city.
Mr. Anthony and his wife, Pamela, are the parents of a daughter and reside in Lower Saucon Township, Pa.
