BETHLEHEM, Pa., September 21, 1999 -- Four key management promotions in Bethlehem Steel Corporation's corporate Accounting Department were announced today by Lonnie A. Arnett, vice president, controller and chief accounting officer.
Frank A. Craven, of Bethlehem, has been named Director of Taxes, responsible for minimizing all of Bethlehem Steel's tax costs while complying with all legal tax requirements. Mr. Craven also will be responsible for handling audit and appeals issues. He joined Bethlehem Steel in 1980 after having worked in public accounting and industry. He is a 1971 graduate of the University of Pennsylvania and is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA).
Walter R. Hitchcock, of Bethlehem, is the department's new Manager, Cost Accounting and Analysis. Mr. Hitchcock will be responsible for Bethlehem's sales and cost accounting processes; analytical cost accounting support; selling, administration and general expense budgeting and accounting processes; appropriate use of information technology in Accounting; analytical data for supporting international trade litigation, and the consolidated general ledger system. He joined Bethlehem Steel in 1979 and has worked in various accounting positions within the corporation. He was graduated from Alderson-Broaddus College, Philippi, W. Va., with a bachelor of science degree in mathematics in 1969 and received his MBA from Wilkes University in 1990.
Paul R. Hubling, of Bethlehem Township, is promoted to Manager, Financial Accounting and Analysis. He will be responsible for Bethlehem's consolidated financial reporting, including all consolidated financial reports issued to stockholders and filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission and other regulatory agencies; establishing consolidated general accounting policies and procedures; analyzing competitors published financial reports/results; accounting for Corporate items; and special financial accounting analyses and reports. Mr. Hubling joined Bethlehem in 1991 in the Internal Audit Division. He was graduated from Michigan State University in 1982 with a bachelor of arts degree in accounting and received his MBA from Western Michigan University in 1984. He is both a CPA and CMA (Certified Management Accountant).
David T. Smith, of Nazareth, is Bethlehem's new Manager, Accounts Payable Services, and is responsible for information technology and other systems to process over one million invoices and check requests involving over $4 billion of annual disbursements; and assuring appropriate internal controls over accounting/analytic information from the accounts payable process. Mr. Smith began his career with Bethlehem in 1973 and has held various accounting positions in the corporation. He was graduated from West Virginia University with a bachelor of science degree in accounting in 1973 and received his MBA from Wilkes University in 1988.
