BETHLEHEM, Pa., June 14, 1999 -- In response to media queries on recent honors awarded to Mr. Barnette, the following was issued:

Bethlehem Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Curtis H. "Hank" Barnette was the recipient of two major honors in late May.

The Bethlehem Area Chamber of Commerce selected Mr. Barnette to receive its Frank L. Marcon Distinguished Community Leadership Award. The prestigious award recognized Mr. Barnette for combining a distinguished business career with sustained and diverse community volunteer service which significantly enhanced the quality of life in the Lehigh Valley.

At Lehigh University's Spring 1999 Commencement, Mr. Barnette was awarded an Honorary Doctor of Laws Degree in recognition of his extraordinary career with the steel company, his exemplary business and community leadership and for his interest in higher education, including his strong ties to Lehigh as a member of the school's Board of Trustees.
