BETHLEHEM, Pa., April 29, 1999 -- Bethlehem Steel Corporation and the United Steelworkers of America have agreed to enter into early collective bargaining negotiations commencing immediately. Their current labor agreement does not expire until August 1, 1999.

Both parties express confidence that they will reach a mutually satisfactory early resolution of their new labor agreement.
