BETHLEHEM, Pa., April 9, 1999 -- Carrier Express Inc., a trucking company of Bethlehem Steel Corporation, has received ISO 9002 certification in recognition of the quality of transportation services it provides its customers.
Carrier Express moves general commodities by flat-bed truck, primarily in the Midwest and Eastern United States. It is a subsidiary of Bethlehem Steel's BethTran, which is the management and logistics supplier to the trucking company. More than 80 percent of Carrier Express' business is in support of customers of Bethlehem Steel's Burns Harbor, Ind., and Sparrows Point, Md., Divisions.
"Over the past few years, Carrier Express has worked effectively to improve the quality of its services while expanding its business opportunities," said J. Michael Zaia, president of Bethlehem Steel's subsidiary companies that provide transportation-related services. "We welcomed the opportunity to document the quality of Carrier Express' work and the satisfaction of their customers."
Carrier Express is one of only a few trucking companies in the nation to obtain ISO 9002 certification issued in accordance with the International Organization of Standards and documented by AFAQ-ASCERT International, an independent registrar. ISO 9002 certification demonstrates Carrier Express' ability to satisfy trucking service requirements at agreed-upon performance standards.
Carrier Express joins other Bethlehem Steel transportation-related subsidiaries -- the Patapsco and Back Rivers Railroad, which serves Bethlehem Steel's Sparrows Point, Md., division, and the Philadelphia, Bethlehem & New England Railroad, which serves Bethlehem Steel's Bethlehem, Pa., complex -- that have earned ISO 9002 certification.
