BETHLEHEM, Pa., October 28, 1998 -- The election, effective January 1, 1999, of Duane R. Dunham to executive vice president, commercial and business development, Bethlehem Steel Corporation, was announced today by Curtis H. Barnette, chairman and chief executive officer.

Mr. Dunham currently serves as president of Bethlehem's Sparrows Point, Md., Division. He is succeeding David P. Post whose retirement, effective December 31, was also announced today.

In his new capacity, Mr. Dunham will serve as Bethlehem's chief commercial officer and will be responsible for providing commercial guidance in corporate governance and business/strategic planning. As Bethlehem's senior business development officer, he will also be responsible for coordinating the identification and analysis of corporate growth objectives and strategies. Mr. Dunham will also be a member of Bethlehem's 1999 Labor Negotiations Steering Committee and will assist on international trade and business matters. In addition, he will serve on Bethlehem Steel's executive office staff and corporate management committee.

A native of Birmingham, Mich., Mr. Dunham received a bachelor of science degree in administration in 1964 from Western Michigan University and a master of science degree in administration from The Pennsylvania State University in 1969. He completed the Advanced Management Program at Stanford University's Graduate School of Business in 1991.

Mr. Dunham joined Bethlehem Steel in 1965 and first served as a salesman in Buffalo, N. Y. He was transferred to Bethlehem, Pa., in 1971 as a salesman in the galvanized and specialty sheet sales division, in which he later served as product specialist, assistant manager and manager.

In 1986, Mr. Dunham was promoted to general manager of marketing services and the following year advanced to general manager, tin mill products sales and marketing. He was named general manager, marketing, in 1988. Mr. Dunham was elected vice president, marketing, in 1990 and named to his current position in January 1993.

He is a member of the American Iron and Steel Institute and was formerly the North American representative for the Committee for Promotion and Market Development of the International Iron and Steel Institute. In the community, Mr. Dunham is a member of the boards of directors of the Bethlehem Steel Foundation, United Way of Central Maryland, Maryland Chamber of Commerce and the Maryland Business Roundtable for Education, and serves on the executive council of Junior Achievement of Central Maryland, Inc.

Mr. Dunham and his wife, Glenna, are the parents of three adult children.
