Dave Post to Retire as Senior Vice President of Bethlehem Steel; Concluding 42-Year Career

BETHLEHEM, Pa., October 28, 1998 -- The retirement, effective December 31, of David P. Post, senior vice president and chief commercial officer, Bethlehem Steel Corporation, was announced today by Curtis H. Barnette, chairman and chief executive officer.

In announcing Mr. Post's retirement, Mr. Barnette said:

"Dave who is retiring after more than 42 years of outstanding service to Bethlehem and the steel industry has been a trusted and valued advisor and 'voice of the customer' to senior management, and has provided outstanding commercial guidance on business and strategic planning matters. Dave has been a leader in championing, implementing and modeling Bethlehem's core values and our customer satisfaction objective throughout his career. We sincerely appreciate his many contributions in moving Bethlehem toward its Vision to Be The Premier Steel Company."

Mr. Post, a native of Grand Rapids, Mich., joined Bethlehem Steel as a member of the 1956 Loop Course management training program following graduation from Michigan Technological University where he received a bachelor of science degree in civil engineering. He then took a two-year leave of absence to serve as an officer in the U. S. Army.

Mr. Post returned to the corporation in 1958 as a salesman in Bethlehem's Chicago office. He later became assistant manager of carbon bar sales, manager of sales in Milwaukee and regional manager of sales in Chicago. He was promoted to senior manager at Bethlehem's Burns Harbor, Ind., plant in 1983. Two years later, Mr. Post was named general manager, commercial, for the Bar, Rod and Wire Division in Johnstown, Pa., and, in 1988, was appointed president of the Bethlehem Structural Products Division in Bethlehem, Pa.

In March 1992, Mr. Post was elected vice president, sales, and was subsequently promoted to senior vice president, commercial, in October 1992. In his current capacity, he serves on the corporation's executive office staff and corporate management committee.

Professionally, Mr. Post is a member of the American Iron and Steel Institute and serves as a member of the institute's Market Development Committee and chairman of the Construction Marketing Committee. He is also a member of the board of directors of the Steel Recycling Institute and the Residential Steel Partnership, and served on the board of the Steel Service Center Institute from 1996-1998.

In the community, Mr. Post is a member of the board of Saucon Valley Country Club and the Michigan Tech Fund. He previously served on the boards of the Bethlehem Area Chamber of Commerce and the Lehigh Valley Industrial Park, and as an Elder of First Presbyterian Church of Bethlehem.

He and his wife, Lois Ann, are the parents of three daughters. In retirement, they will continue to reside in Bethlehem and remain active in community affairs.
