Bethlehem Steel Corporation is the second largest integrated steel producer in the United States, with an annual raw steel production capacity of 11.5 million tons. Bethlehem employs about 16,000 people in plants located on the east coast and in the midwest.
Today Bethlehem's basic steel operations include four main business units:
- Burns Harbor, Ind., Division (including Lackawanna, N.Y., Coke and Galvanized Products Divisions) (BH)
- Sparrows Point, Md., Division (SP)
- Bethlehem Lukens Plate (BLP), with facilities in Coatesville and Conshohocken, Pa., (BLP-East) and Burns Harbor, Ind. (BLP-West)
- Pennsylvania Steel Technologies, Inc. (PST) in Steelton, Pa.
These business units produce a wide variety of steel mill products including hot rolled, cold rolled and coated sheets and strip, plates, tin mill products, specialty blooms, flat bars, rail and large-diameter pipe.
Bethlehem also has interests in or operates iron ore and coal operations, subsidiary railroad and trucking operations, and lake shipping operations. The corporation also participates in several joint ventures for flat-rolled products.
