Hot-Rolled Products:
Teamwork for world-class customers
As thousands of rigid steel auto and
truck frames zip down assembly lines across the country,
there is a good chance they have one thing in common: a
start at Sparrows Point.
We provide quality hot-rolled steel for
high-strength frames, durable drive train and engine
components, and the reliable suspension systems that go
into America's automobiles and trucks.
Meeting the needs of today's
world-class vehicle manufacturers takes superior steel,
service, dependability, market knowledge and insight.
With years of experience, this is where we excel.
As new challenges face our valuable
customers in hot-rolled steel markets, we are working
with them in partnerships to initiate and implement
long-term solutions. Employee teams, established to
monitor the fulfillment of customers' requirements, bring
together representatives from nearly every discipline.
Expectations are met.
Similarly, we responded to the demand
for increased quality with a 10-year team effort that
reached its pinnacle when Sparrows Point became the first
integrated steel producer in the United States to be
awarded ISO 9002 certification. Another boost in quality
came with the more than $200-million modernization of the
hot strip mill. We can now offer customers larger steel
coils and a much-improved surface quality. This
computerized high-tech mill has enabled us to achieve
record rates of production, improving delivery
reliability.
Team Approach In Sales
Sparrows Point and Worthington Steel-Baltimore
have formed an innovative sales and marketing approach to
supply hot-rolled, heavy-gauge slit steel to East Coast
markets.
This partnership will sell the product in three
different ways. Using Worthington as a processor,
Bethlehem will sell direct to customers. Using Sparrows
Point as its supplier, Worthington will sell direct to
customers. And, in a team approach, Worthington and
Bethlehem will sell the product together, using a
combined sales force.
The two nearby Baltimore facilities, benefiting
from low freight rates, have taken the traditional
customer/supplier relationship into a new dimension.
