BETHLEHEM, Pa., October 10, 1996 -- The appointment of Maurice E. Carino, Jr., to vice president, federal government affairs, Bethlehem Steel Corporation, effective November 1, was announced today by Curtis H. Barnette, Bethlehem's chairman.
Mr. Carino, who is advancing from manager, federal government affairs, succeeds William E. Wickert, Jr., whose retirement has been announced. He will report to Stephen G. Donches, vice president, public affairs.
Mr. Carino received a bachelor of science degree in engineering management from Boston University in 1966 and a master of business administration degree from the University of Santa Clara in 1973. He began his business career with the General Electric Company and subsequently was employed by the Institute of Gas Technology and the Electric Power Research Institute.
He joined Bethlehem Steel in 1985 as manager, federal technology development, and was transferred to the Public Affairs Department in 1987. He was promoted to manager, federal government affairs in 1991.
Mr. Carino serves on the Washington Coal Club's board of directors, has served as vice chairman of the government affairs committee of the Shipbuilders Council of America, and is active in a number of committees of the American Iron and Steel Institute. His community activities include service with the American Heart Association, Saratoga Community Association, and Springfield Little League Association. In 1993 he received Bethlehem Steel Corporation's Gold Award for outstanding individual achievement.
He is a member of the Capitol Hill Club and the Country Club of Fairfax. He and his wife, Joan, reside in Springfield, Va.
