Robert A. Rudzki elected to

BETHLEHEM, Pa., March 17, 2000 � The election, effective April 1, 2000, of Robert A. Rudzki to vice president, business development, was announced today by Curtis H. Barnette, chairman and chief executive officer. Mr. Rudzki is advancing from his current position as vice president, purchasing and transportation, and chief procurement officer. He will report to Duane R. Dunham, president and chief operating officer, whose election to chairman, president and chief executive officer will become effective on April 25, 2000.
In his new position, Mr. Rudzki will be the officer responsible for the identification, development and management oversight of new business opportunities leading to substantial growth for Bethlehem. He will also be responsible for the development and coordination of Bethlehem�s e-Business strategy. Mr. Rudzki will also have management responsibility for Bethlehem� s Subsidiary Railroad Companies.
Born in West Bromwich, England, Mr. Rudzki graduated summa cum laude from Lehigh University in 1975 with a bachelor of science degree in industrial engineering and a minor in chemical engineering. In 1977, he graduated from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania with a master�s degree in business administration with a concentration in finance and a minor in marketing.
Following graduation, he joined Bethlehem Steel as a member of the corporation�s Loop Course management training program and was assigned to the finance department�s credit division.
In 1979, he was promoted to senior credit assistant and later that year was appointed project analyst in the financial planning division. In 1980, he was promoted to administrative manager, credit division. In 1982, upon the formation of the business development division, Mr. Rudzki was appointed a director of business development. He was promoted to manager of banking in 1986 and elected assistant treasurer in 1988.
As assistant treasurer, he was responsible for the treasury division and the risk management division of the finance department. He also served as a trustee of the Pension Trust. Mr. Rudzki received the certified cash manager distinction from the Treasury Management Association and is past president of the Treasury Management Association of Central Pennsylvania. He has served on the Pennsylvania State Treasurer�s advisory committee on electronic funds transfer.
In 1993, Mr. Rudzki was elected assistant controller of the corporation, with responsibility for corporate accounting and analysis, business analysis, capital appropriations, financial reporting, financial forecasting, and cost accounting. He continued to serve as a trustee of the Pension Trust.
In 1994, Mr. Rudzki advanced to the position of general manager, purchasing and transportation, and, in 1996, he was elected vice president, purchasing and transportation, and chief procurement officer.
In 1998, Mr. Rudzki was appointed to the Investment Committee of the Pension Trust and in that year also was given responsibility for Bethlehem�s Subsidiary Railroads, a group of 11 operating companies.
Mr. Rudzki has been a board member of two United Way agencies. Currently, he serves on the Muhlenberg College Board of Associates, and the Board of Directors of the American Red Cross, Lehigh Valley Chapter.
Mr. Rudzki and his wife, Nancy, are the parents of three children. They reside in Bethlehem, Pa.
