STEELTON, Pa., February 6. 1996 -- The 20-inch bar mill at Pennsylvania Steel Technologies (PST) Inc., has resumed production with the completion of flood clean-up work at the mill. Much of the versatile mill, which supplies large bar flats and special sections to the machinery and equipment manufacturing industries, was water- covered when the banks of the Susquehanna River overflowed in late January due to heavy rain storms and melting snow.
PST's new electric furnace, continuous caster, rail mill and rail head hardening facility were not significantly affected by the flooding, but the plant's low lying areas and much of its internal railroad were water-covered for a few days following the storm.
Steelmaking and rail-making resumed immediately after the flood waters receded, and crews have been working around-the-clock to restore production at the 20-inch mill. Regular product shipments from the 20-inch mill will begin within the next day of so.
