Walter E. Morrissey to associate general counsel

BETHLEHEM, Pa., April 17, 2000 -- The appointment of Walter E. Morrissey as associate general counsel of Bethlehem Steel Corporation was announced here today by William H. Graham, Bethlehem's general counsel.
In his new position, Mr. Morrissey, formerly general attorney, will be primarily responsible for handling state and federal litigation.
A native of Bennington, Vt., Mr. Morrissey received a bachelor of arts degree in American government from Harvard College in 1970 and a doctor of jurisprudence degree in 1974 from Georgetown University.
He joined Bethlehem Steel in 1971, working in the corporation�s Washington, D.C., federal government affairs office. Upon receipt of his law degree, Mr. Morrissey moved to Bethlehem�s corporate offices as an attorney in industrial relations with primary duties in tort litigation and workers compensation. In 1983 he joined the law department with primary assignments in product liability, tort and insurance matters. He was named senior attorney in 1986 and general attorney in 1989.
Mr. Morrissey is a member of the American, Pennsylvania and Northampton County bar associations. He helped form the local bar association's Boy Scouts of America Explorer Post in the 1970s and currently is a member of the state bar's litigation section and house counsel committee. He is a member of the ABA's tort and insurance section.
In the community, Mr. Morrissey has been active in political and charitable organizations, having served as chairman of the Bethlehem Republican City Committee. He is currently president, board of directors, of the Saucon Valley Community Center, Hellertown.
Mr. Morrissey, his wife, Terry, and their family reside in Upper Saucon Township.
