Joseph J. Haggerty, Jr. named manager, planning

BETHLEHEM, Pa., April 10, 2000 � Joseph J. Haggerty Jr. has been named manager, planning, in Bethlehem Steel Corporation�s planning department, it was announced today by Dr. Carl F. Meitzner, vice president, planning.

In his new position, Mr. Haggerty will assume responsibility for the department�s economic studies and competitive analysis activities while continuing his strategic project responsibilities related to special studies, joint ventures and acquisitions.

Mr. Haggerty, a native of Jim Thorpe, Pa., received a bachelor of arts degree in accounting in 1978 and a master of business administration degree in 1990, both from Moravian College. He began his Bethlehem career in 1973 at the Bethlehem plant and was assigned to the plant�s accounting department in 1980. Mr. Haggerty was promoted to supervisor of analysis at the Sparrows Point, Md., Division in 1986 and returned to Bethlehem in 1988 as a strategic planner in the corporate planning department. He was promoted to manager, strategic projects, in 1999, his most recent position.

Professionally, Mr. Haggerty is a member of the Philadelphia chapter of the Association of Iron and Steel Engineers.

Mr. Haggerty and his wife, Karen, reside in Whitehall, Pa. They are the parents of two children.
