A native of St. Clair, Pa., Mr. Futchko joined Bethlehem Steel in 1965 following graduation from The Pennsylvania State University with a bachelor of science degree in fuel technology.

He was initially assigned to the fuel department in Bethlehem’s Lackawanna, N.Y., plant. In 1977 he was appointed assistant general foreman in the plant’s fuel, utilities and environmental control department and became superintendent there in 1981.

Mr. Futchko was transferred to the Bethlehem plant in 1983 and became manager of maintenance in November of that year. He was named manager, primary operations and maintenance, two years later.

In 1986 he was transferred to Steelton as manager of operations, and he returned to Bethlehem as manager of operations in August 1987. He was appointed president of the Steelton Rail Products and Pipe Division, effective March 1, 1992. In December 1992, Bethlehem Steel formed a wholly owned subsidiary, Pennsylvania Steel Technologies, Inc., with Mr. Futchko as president.

Mr. Futchko is a member of the Board of Directors of the Capitol Region United Way and the Railway Progress Institute.

He and his wife, Tina, reside in Hershey. They are the parents of three children.
