Walter N. Bargeron
Born in Westfield, Mass., Dr. Bargeron holds a bachelor's degree in metallurgical engineering from the University of Notre Dame and a doctorate in metallurgical engineering from the University of Michigan. He joined Bethlehem Steel in 1969 and was assigned to the Lackawanna, N.Y., plant, where he was involved in research on ironmaking processes. Subsequently, he served as a supervising engineer in the blast furnace department and supervisor of several metallurgical divisions. He was named supervisor, basic facilities, in the technology department at Lackawanna in 1980. Dr. Bargeron was transferred to the Burns Harbor, Ind., plant in 1983 as senior supervisor, technology department, and the following year was promoted to chief metallurgist. In 1985, he was appointed manager of quality assurance and process technology. In 1987, he was named a senior manager at Burns Harbor with responsibilities relating to product quality, process technology, and cold rolled and coated sheet operations. He was elected vice president, technology and quality assurance, for Bethlehem Steel in 1991. He was named president of the corporation's Services Division in 1993, with responsibility for Homer Research Laboratories, quality assurance, information technology, facilities engineering, claims, billing and accounts receivable. Dr. Bargeron was elected president of Bethlehem's Burns Harbor Division, effective July 1, 1996.
