Company Profile
Bethlehem Steel Corporation is the second largest integrated steel producer in the United States, with an annual raw steel production capacity of 10.5 million tons. Bethlehem employs about 16,000 people in plants located on the east coast and in the midwest. Its basic steel operations include three core steel business divisions:
Burns Harbor Division (including Lackawanna Coke and Galvanized Products Divisions) (BH)
Sparrows Point Division (SP)
Pennsylvania Steel Technologies, Inc. (PST)
These business divisions produce a wide variety of steel mill products
including hot-rolled, cold-rolled and coated sheets and strip, plates, tin mill products,
specialty blooms, billets, flat bars, rail, large-diameter pipe and coke.
Also included in basic steel operations are iron ore operations, which provide raw
materials to Bethlehem’s steelmaking facilities or sell such materials to trade
customers; subsidiary railroad and trucking operations, which primarily transport raw
materials and semi-finished steel products within various Bethlehem operations; lake
shipping operations, which primarily transport raw materials to the Burns Harbor Division;
and the Coke Ovens Division in Bethlehem, Pa., which supplies coke to Burns Harbor,
Sparrows Point and trade customers.
Bethlehem also participates in several joint ventures for flat-rolled
products. Steel-related operations that have been sold include BethForge, Inc., CENTEC
Roll Corporation and BethShip, Inc. BethForge and CENTEC manufacture and fabricate various
iron and steel products for the metals, electric power generation and machinery
industries. BethShip repairs marine vessels and manufactures industrial products.
