Quality: An Ongoing Commitment.
Bethlehem maintains its Galvalume sheet production facilities and equipment according to
predetermined standards. The implementation of statistical process control and standard
operating procedures in 1985 significantly improved quality at our Sparrows Point
coated-sheet lines. This is particularly true for our full-hard Galvalume sheet. The
program encompasses all operations from steelmaking through shipping and requires
conformance to rigid product and process standards.
We know that ability to meet our objectives depends on anticipating and satisfying our
customers needs. To be a premier supplier, we continually focus our efforts on
improving product quality and customer service and reducing costs. And we are investing in
new technologies and facilities that are required to maintain our competitiveness and
support our objectives.
Customer Service.
One aspect of Bethlehems customer service involves Product Research. Our engineers
and scientists utilize a broad range of state-of-the-art equipment at our Homer Research
Laboratories in Bethlehem to develop, assess and apply new technologies. These efforts are
aimed at developing new, cost-effective, coated-sheet products to meet specific customer
requirements.
Bethlehem's Customer Engineering Group draws together a wide variety of technical
resources. Headquartered at Sparrows Point, and with representatives in our major district
sales offices, this group helps customers specify appropriate materials, solve problems,
and reduce material and processing costs.
Electronic Data Interchange
Bethlehem also offers electronic data interchange (EDI). We can provide EDI communications
between mainframes, personal computers, office systems or combinations of these systems.
Information can be provided about purchase orders, order changes, acknowledgments, ready
status and shipping notification. Because of our resources, experience and focus on such
systems, we can provide customers with these services and tailor them to meet their needs.
