LARGE DIAMETER PIPE MILL PROFILE

 Pennsylvania Steel Technologies, Inc., located in Steelton, Pa., is a wholly owned subsidiary of Bethlehem Steel Corporation. The large diameter pipe mill has been in operation in its current configuration since the early 1960’s. The mill is a U-O-E type with the capability to produce diameters from 20" OD to 42" OD in 0.281" to 1.000" gage in ASTM grades and API grades up to X70. The mill has participated in many pipeline construction projects over the last three decades. There have been several equipment rebuilds and upgrades in recent years keeping the mill’s production capability and quality equal in the industry.

The most recent upgrades include state of the art ultra-sonic and fluoroscopic inspection equipment, and a new tracking and process control computer system. In addition, PST has brought on line a completely upgraded Coating Mill operated by Dura-Bond Coating, Inc. The combination of the mill and coating plant produces one of the highest quality line pipe products available.

PST’s source of plate is from the Bethlehem-Lukens ISO 9002 certified plate mills located in Burns Harbor, Indiana. The plate mills are supplied with caster produced slabs made using the latest steelmaking and casting technology.

The pipe mill operates under a strict corporate Quality Assurance Program as well as in compliance with the API Q1 program. The excellent source of plate material has enhanced the pipe mill’s ability to produce quality pipe with consistent dimensional and mechanical properties.
