| PST: Capability, Commitment and Experience...unique
in modern steelmaking A wholly owned subsidiary of Bethlehem Steel Corporation, PST can
claim more than a century of innovation in steelmaking.
For over 10 years, PST has been a major supplier of blooms to many segments of the
forging industry, including open- and closed-die forging, ring rolling, upsetting,
and extruding. Products range from disks and flanges to deep-drawn cylinders.
Capability
Our Jumbo bloom caster produces the largest cast blooms in North America
... 23.6" x 14.6". And we have invested more than $200 million in the last
10 years to meet the forging industry's demand for high-quality cast blooms which provide
a uniform cross section from end-to-end. Modernization efforts have included the addition
of a new 150 NT DC electric arc furnace, ladle arc furnace and a vacuum degasser, all
aimed at providing the best internal steel cleanliness. This, combined with the large
bloom size, affords a maximum reduction ratio of 9.5:1 from cast bloom to 6" RCS
rolled bloom.
Commitment
Modernization and the introduction of new technology are important measures of PST's
commitment to the forging industry. Another is our dedicated capacity. To PST, no
other market has a higher priority, and our reserved capacity for cast blooms translates
into a reliable source with the most dependable lead times in the industry.
People and Technology
Producing quality steel requires more than modern equipment and advanced technology. It
takes a knowledgeable and experienced work force. PST is fortunate to have such a
dedicated team from technical personnel in the modern research laboratory in
Bethlehem, Pa., to a highly skilled work force on the shop floor in Steelton. Through the
combined energies of our people, PST has the ability to deliver on its commitment to
provide quality forging blooms and responsive service.
