Centec's vertical spin caster produces higher quality, better performance and more reliable rolls consistently. The vertical casting method provides excellent interface fusion between the shell and core metals.

In addition, when compared with other types of rolls, Centec's vertical spin cast rolls offer:

• Greater resistance to breakage through thermal shock and improved reliability in operation. The core metal is not mixed with the shell material and contains only the specified alloy content.
• Improved hardness consistency throughout the shell depth for indefinite chill rolls.

The Manufacturing Process
Quality control is built into every step of Centec's operations ... from design engineering to delivery. And Statistical Process Control plays an integral part in ensuring complete compliance with customer specifications as well as consistent product quality, hardness penetration and shell depth.

The vertical spin caster allows Centec to provide high-quality rolls in many dimensions. Hot metal is poured into the rotating mold and is subjected to extreme high pressure, resulting in a homogeneous product.

Centec also provides precision machining and grinding to produce the needed roll finish. Numerically controlled tools are used to improve the performance of Centec's rolls by grinding and polishing surfaces, and to ensure the roundness and accuracy of the rolls' overall dimensions.
