BETHLEHEM, Pa., April 30, 1996 -- The election of Dorothy L. Stephenson as vice president, human resources, Bethlehem Steel Corporation, effective May 1, was announced today by Curtis H. Barnette, Bethlehem's chairman.

Ms. Stephenson is advancing from manager, human resources, at Bethlehem Steel's Bethlehem Structural Products Corporation subsidiary. In her new position, Ms. Stephenson will be responsible for Bethlehem Steel's human resources activities and will report to John A. Jordan, Jr., Bethlehem's senior vice president and chief administrative officer.

A native of Carlisle, Ky., she received her undergraduate degree from the University of Kentucky and her juris doctor degree from the University of Louisville.

From 1974 to 1976, she served as a trial attorney in Region 5 of the National Labor Relations Board in Baltimore, Md.

She joined Bethlehem Steel as a labor attorney in 1976. She was promoted to senior attorney in 1987, to labor counsel in 1989, and to general manager, union relations, in 1990. In 1994, Ms. Stephenson was appointed manager of human resources at Bethlehem Structural Products. That same year she completed the Advanced Management Program at Harvard University's Graduate School of Business Administration.

Ms. Stephenson is admitted to the bar in Pennsylvania and is a member of the American Bar Association and its Labor Law Section, the Pennsylvania Bar Association and the Northampton County Bar Association. She currently serves on the Lehigh Valley Area Vocational Industrial Clubs of America's Industry Council.

In 1991, she was accepted into the YMCA's Academy of Women Achievers, a national organization honoring women of exceptional achievement.
